Local AI on your PC, phone or notebook: how to join

KIplatz is a free AI for Windows 11 that runs on your own PC. You get the program as a ZIP, unpack it and start it, with no administrator rights and no account at a corporation.

ZIP, about 28 MB. Build and checksum are in bau.txt and CommunityAI.zip.sha256.

Three steps to join

  1. Unpack the ZIP and start "KIplatz". Windows does not ask. The program sets itself up in your user folder and puts a shortcut on the desktop; you can delete the unpacked folder afterwards.
  2. Name your PC and set under "Share computing" how much it may help. On battery it pauses by itself.
  3. Ask your first question. Your account for talking and building you create with an e-mail address and a password, or with Google or GitHub.

Which device you need

Answering itself

A PC with a graphics card of 6 GB or more and 16 GB of memory. The model, 2 to 5 GB, is downloaded once by the program.

After that your PC answers even without internet.

Asking

Any PC with 4 GB of memory or more. If yours is busy, a free PC in the community answers.

You only notice the difference in the line under the answer that says who answered.

Preparing knowledge

A simple processor and 6 GB of memory are enough. Your PC prepares sections, summarises them and puts them into the shared knowledge.

That is the work every PC can do, an older notebook too.

Asking on the phone

In the browser KIplatz already runs today on every iPhone and Android device, phone or tablet, as described below. The app in the App Store and on Google Play is coming soon.

If your PC at home is switched on, you can also fetch your files from anywhere, with no cloud.

We measured these values on our first three devices, two notebooks and a desktop PC, all with Windows 11.

On your phone today: open kiplatz.at/app in the browser and put it on your home screen, on the iPhone via “Share” and “Add to Home Screen”, on Android via the ⋮ menu and “Add to Home screen”. Then open KIplatz with the new icon and sign in with your KIplatz account. The step-by-step guide is in the wiki under Ask on your phone.

How your PC works for everyone

Switched on, your device works on the shared knowledge and answers other members' questions if it is strong enough. Pause and Stop take effect at once. It fetches updates itself, checks the signature and restarts.

Every connection it opens is listed under "What leaves my computer". For every piece of work done you get credits: recognition and priority for answers, not money.

Your device helps while you do not need it.

Gone again if you want

"Remove program" under Settings takes it off the device. "Leave the community" under "My community" deletes everything on the server that belongs to your device: name, credits, counters. Your conversations stay with you. You are welcome back any time.
