KIplatz on Linux and Mac

Your Linux machine or your Mac can work for the KIplatz community. That is what the helper is for. It has no window and runs quietly in the background.

It only takes as much as you allow, starts as a service for your user and never needs admin rights.

During setup the helper shows an address. Open it in a browser, on your phone is fine too, sign in with your KIplatz account and confirm “Connect a new PC?”. After that it starts by itself whenever you log in.

The helper on your computer

Suitable devices

Linux on ordinary PCs (x64) and Macs with Apple silicon, M1 or newer. A device answers questions when it has its own graphics card and 16 GB of memory; on a Mac the Apple chip counts as graphics.

Devices without a card hold parts of the shared knowledge and do background work. Linux on ARM and Intel Macs will follow.

Checked and signed

It fetches the AI runtime and a suitable model from our server and checks every file against a checksum built into it. Updates arrive by themselves and are signed.

It runs as a service for your user (systemd or launchd), never as root.

Answers go out, your files never do

It sends kiplatz.at the answers it works out and a few numbers such as its load. Your files, your conversations, camera and microphone stay with you.
